Code of Conduct for Photographers 




Preamble

The purpose of this charter is to reiterate the rules and duties arising from legislation and professional practices in the field of photography, and is part of an effort to make everyone more accountable by preventing acts that could harm the profession as a whole.

Compliance with legislation

1. Professional photographers work within the framework of the European Convention on Human Rights, in particular article 10, which guarantees everyone freedom of expression.
The photographer respects and defends this fundamental right in our society.

2. The professional photographer respects and defends the Intellectual Property Code which protects him as an author.

3. The professional photographer undertakes to exercise his profession with a social and fiscal status that complies with legislation.

Respect for clients

4. The professional photographer undertakes to maintain confidentiality and discretion in order to protect the rights and property of his clients.

5. The professional photographer must inform his clients of the legislation in force specific to the profession, both fiscal and social, and relating to the distribution of works.

6. The professional photographer must advise his clients on the methods and techniques best suited to the successful completion of their request.

Respect for members of the profession

7. The professional photographer undertakes to charge prices commensurate with the distribution of the photographs and allowing the exercise of the
profession. (covering at least operating, investment and training costs).

8. In the case of collaboration with a colleague, if the Professional Photographer enters into contact with the latter's distributor, he/she undertakes not to misappropriate it for his/her own benefit.

9. With regard to the work of a colleague, the professional photographer undertakes to adopt an attitude of fairness and reserve in his judgements.

10. The photographer working for a press medium undertakes to respect the "journalist's charter of rights and duties".

11. In the event of any invitation to plagiarise, the photographer must inform his or her distributor of the risks involved and the scope of his or her action.

12. Professional photographers must pass on their knowledge and know-how to the future professionals they agree to train.
